Tip: Check the I/O tab in EasyStarter before commissioning a new i500 configuration

The i500 series inverters have default parameter settings to allow for basic out of the box operation as follows:

The parameter settings that by default assign the digital I/O above shown to DI1-DI5 are:

P400.001 (ENABLE) = 1 [TRUE]

P400.002 (RUN) = 11 [digital input 1]

P400.004 (RESET FAULT) = 12 [digital input 2]

P400.013 (REVERSE ROTATION DIRECTION) = 13 [digital input 3]

P400.018 (ACTIVATE PRESET (BIT 0)) = 14 [digital input 4]

P400.019 (ACTIVATE PRESET (BIT 1)) = 15 [digital input 5]

While this allows a great many applications to be run right out of the box with minimal programming, users may experience confusion when applying settings for their own application as double assignment of functions to I/O is possible.

For example if a user left the default setting of P400.013 (REVERSE ROTATION DIRECTION) = 13 [digital input 3] and also set P400.009 (RUN REVERSE) also = 13 [digital input 3] both functions would be triggered simultaneously by asserting DI3.  Reversing the direction of RUN REVERSE would make the drive run in the forward direction.

Users must clear unwanted functions (set = 0 [not connected]) when developing their own configurations.  An easy way to ensure unwanted double assignments of I/O is not programmed the user can check the I/O tab display in the Diagnosis tab of Easy Starter.  Here all I/O are shown with a listing of assigned functions.  If an I/O point has more than one assignment a box with a “…” appears next to the assignment.

Clicking on the “…” button will display a list of all the functions which have the I/O point in question assigned.

Checking these assignments prior to commissioning is good practice when developing configuration files for the i500.

If an error is seen the user can quickly correct the situation by visiting the Flexible I/O configuration screen, clicking on the function they want to remove and setting that to [0] not connected.
