Curious about technology

Future Day: 50 schoolchildren experience Lenze at first hand

Aerzen, 28 April 2023. How do you solder components onto a circuit board? What career prospects does Lenze offer? And how can I apply for an apprenticeship? Around 50 schoolchildren were given the opportunity to look behind the scenes at automation specialists Lenze during “Future Day 2023”.

Lotta is concentrated. Today, there are no math or other schoolbooks in front of the pupil. Today, she has soldering irons, resistors and light-emitting diodes in front of her - with the aim of producing an electronic cube. "It's real fun," the 14-year-old enthuses. After three years of corona-related restrictions, Future Day - a German wide action program for career orientation – took place once again at the Lenze Headquarters in Hamelin, Germany. "In the last years we successfully worked with virtual formats, but of course it makes a difference whether you see an exciting station on the monitor or can experience it yourself," says instructor Lea Eickermann.

Versatile stations and workshops
At several stations and in workshops, the girls and boys aged 13 to 15 learned about different job profiles. The varied program was put together by the current Lenze apprentices. "We want to get young people excited about technology and are happy about the great interest," says Lea Eickermann. They created an exciting program ranging from company rallies, environmental and sales workshops, the basics of metal technology and job application training to hands-on activities. The skilled workers of tomorrow particularly enjoyed the hands-on stations, trying things out, tinkering and working. For example, they were allowed to make key rings with their own names - and take them home as a nice souvenir.

Lotta's thirst for discovery has also awakened. It doesn't take long before she has attached all the electronic components to the circuit board - and the LEDs light up. "I can well imagine doing an apprenticeship or a dual study program at Lenze later on," says the 14-year-old.
